The People have Spoken! #PCA Winners!

This awards are in the order they were given out or announced.

Favorite Female Movie Star/Comedic Movie Actress : Emma Stone

2011 was a huge year for the Scottsdale gal with 3 big roles and we are just seeing what’s to come from her

Favorite Daytime Talk Show Host: Ellen Degeneres

Really no surprise here, the only person that could top Ellen would be Oprah who is no longer on air.

Favorite TV Comedic Actress: Leah Michelle – GLEE

GLEE may not get the ratings it once had but the fans are still strong and true and love their show. No surprise really here as Michelle beat out her fellow co-star Jane Lynch.

Favorite TV Drama Actress: Nina Dobrev

Vampire Diaries fans have some very strong willpower and tweeting power as they took the wild card in this cat. and jumped her over major network’s ABC & FOX favorite’s gals

Favorite TV Comedy Actor: Neil Patrick Harris – How I Met Your Mother

Repeat alert: Last year’s winner does it again as the the HIMYM star carries the title from last year despite some comp. from fellow CBS star Jim Parsons & FOX stars Colfer & Monteith.

Favorite Pop Artist: Demi Lovoto

The wild card in this category pulled out the win when may thought it would be a Katy Perry or Lady Gaga win. Her fan base really pulled it off esp. since they had to go against fans of Beyonce, Perry, Gaga and Rihanna.

Favorite Comedic Movie Actor: Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler is the true comedy man and has always been a fan favorite. His films may have not been critics favs. but they have always been favorites with the people and really who is choosing these awards tonight.

Favorite Movie Star under 25: Chloe Moretz

The “so-called” Harry Potter award as 4 out of the 5 nominees came from the billion dollar franchise goes to the only nominee not from the Potter franchise in Chloe Moretz who came onto the film scene thanks to Golden Globe and Oscar fav Hugo. It really came down to the fact that Potter fans may have never been able to truly pick between there favorite stars.

Favorite Band : Maroon 5

Favorite Drama Movie: Water for Elephants

Wow.. Another wild card win, but I really called it cause guess who plays the lead actor. Robert Pattinson fans really pulled this one off even over Oscar fav. such as the The Help.

Favorite Book Adaptation : Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Favorite TV Celebreality Star: Kim Kardashian

Favorite TV Drama Actor: Nathan Fillion – Castle

YES!!! The Canadian finally gets his due! Nathan has been perfect as Castle over the last 3 and half years and is finally getting his dues.

Favortie TV Crime Drama: Castle

YES!! As you can tell, you know which show I voted for, just a little upset that they didn’t get there own presentation. Season 3 was certainly the best season of Castle and glad Stana got to take the award as she should get used to awards as she very well may soon be getting her own!

Favorite Comedy Movie: Bridesmaids

Best Comedy of 2011 hands down! That movie rocked it and there acceptance speech made us remember how fun that film was! Bridesmaids really only had competition from Bad Teacher.

Hook, Line & Sinker.

January is a TV viewers best friend as most shows come back all-new episodes after the Christmas break. Repeats end and the newest stories of our favorite characters are back.

Tonight was Grey’s Anatomy’s turn and man oh man can I just say: Thank You Shonda Rimes!

**Warning Spoilers Below**

Tonight’s Grey’s was quite the return for this show and had the fan’s tears a flowing. First we had the Meredith/Alex drama and of course the Teddy/Christina/Henry storyline.

Meredith and Alex’s dead ambualnce was looking like the lesser story going into the episode but by the end its the story that pulled at our heartstrings.

We first had to see a teenager watch both her grandma & mom die right in front of her all while wondering how her dad, sister and brother were doing in surgery. Then just 4 hours into her 18th birthday she had to make the impossible decision as the now “head of the family” as she said goodbye to her dad. Lily had the entire twitterverse on overdrive as a day that should have been fun and exciting become the worst day of her life.

Then there was the whole Teddy/Christina and Henry story that made us believe that Dr. Webber said it best “Her husband died in our hospital, she’s never gonna forgive any of us”  Quite the situation that Owen gave to Christina and Sandra Oh’s and Kim Raver’s acting tonight was top notch along with all of the actors who played a major role in tonight’s episode.

For all the sadness and tears that tonight’s episode gave us, it also gave the us the usual fun that somehow every Greys episode has. That moment came at the end when Meredith and Derek got Zola back, something that every Mer/Der. back had been asking for

Tonight’s Greys Anatomy  really made up for the month long wait that us fans had to endure and make us believe that that wait was more then worth it.

Now from mine and Maddie’s perspective: Its Castle’s turn! Give us some Caskett

How Soap Operas changed TV.

As the end of OLTL comes closer and fellow soap GH’s timeline grows smaller, I decided to look back on the shows I grew up watching with my mom every day.

Soap Operas are where the more crazy and the less reality story lines have – the better.

Soap Opera fans are known to be some of the most passionate fans in the world and will go to just about anywhere or do just about anything for the actors and actress that play their beloved characters on their favorite soaps. I still remember coming home from school every day and me and my mom would watch that day’s episodes of One Life to Live and General Hospital. Story lines such as the Aztec Adventure, WSB, Vicki and Dorian’s feud and of course super couples such as Luke and Laura, Robert and Anna and AMC’s Jesse and Angie graced our TV screen and of course annoyed the hell out the dad(which we loved).

We had our characters that we despised, hated, had a love/hate relationship, loved and actors/actress that we had crushes on(Mom had a crush on Nathan Fillion as Joey on OLTL, which is funny cause I love him on ABC’s Castle now). Soaps became like a member of the family as moms & daughters gathered around the TV and watched the daily lives of the residents of Pine Valley, Landview, Port Charles and Salem just to name a few.

Soaps have not only changed TV, but they have changed how we look at the world and the issues within it. Soaps have had story lines that not only reached out to it’s viewers but also to the general public and taught us a thing or two about each other and lead to beginnings in social change.

Soaps have had people come back from the dead, marriages that last for what seems like a millisecond and crazy story lines that make us laugh, bring us joy, upset us and make us mad as hell but also at the same time some of these same story lines have questioned public opinion or taken controversial topics and put them full face into the eyes of the general public.

We have had story lines in soap’s history that tackle those topics that are in our everyday live’s from Monica’s breast cancer storyline, Erica Kane’s drug addiction, Viki Lord’s Multiple Personality Disorder, Gay/Lesbian storyline’s such as AMC’s Bianca, OLTL’s Kyle and Oliver(known as KISH) and of course ATWT’s Luke and Noah.

There’s also story lines of rape, abuse and HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS story lines such as Robin/Stone romance opened peoples eyes to the disease and truly made the disease something people talked about instead of sweeping it under the rug.

Soaps not only changed TV on how they were made, operated or written. Many firsts in TV history happened on soaps such as One Live to Live, As the World Turns, General Hospital and All My Children and without these moments and story lines our world today could potentially look a whole lot different.

Question is now… Can our favorite soaps be saved and can they survive in this digital age.

Soaps being posted on Youtube by the networks anyone?

Winter in BC is oh so much fun.

Even though the calendar says November 17th, it looks more like December 17th out there.

It may be that in provinces such as Ontario and Quebec it takes at least a foot of snow to close schools, roads etc. Here in Vancouver and British Columbia that amount of snow would cause massive panic among its residents unless up on the hills of Cypress, Grouse or other ski/snowboard resorts.

Now its a common misunderstanding that it only takes a millimeter of snow to send this city into massive panic but in reality it only takes 5. Once we get to that point all hell brakes lose – schools close, drivers forget how to drive, big puffy coats are brought out of the closet and of course the umbrellas are in our hands 24/7.

Yes it may be true that the slightest snow sends people running for the nearest tire store or into full lockdown of any unnecessary travel mode, but really it can’t be that bad can it?

Just one day into this “early” winter I’m already seeing my in for one heck of a ride…Just coming down Austin in Coquitlam about a hour into the snowfall, there’s already at least 6 cars slipping & sliding all along the road, plus 4-5 accidents already.

The one thing that’s for sure – ICBC seems to be the only ones who enjoy Vancouver Winter.

Favorite Network TV Drama

  1. The Good Wife
  2. Grey’s Anatomy

My Choice: Grey’s Anatomy

Favorite TV Drama Actor

  1. David Boreanaz
  2. Hugh Laurie
  3. Ian Somerhalder
  4. Nathan Fillion
  5. Patrick Dempsey
Winner: Nathan Fillion needs his due(as well as co-star Stana Katic) as he has rocked the role as Castle for over 3 seasons. Perennial Fav. Dempsey or Laurie could steal the statue though.
My Pick: Nathan Fillion

Favorite TV Drama Actress

  1. Blake Lively
  2. Ellen Pompeo
  3. Emily Deschanel
  4. Eva Longoria
  5. Nina Dobrev
Winner: Eva could pull away this year… Desperate Housewives has alway been seen as a prime time “soap” but its in its final season and Eva needs her dues.
My Pick: Same

Favorite Cable TV Drama

  1. Dexter
  2. Game of Thrones
  3. Pretty Little Liars
  4. True Blood
  5. White Collar
Winner: This one is a tough call, Dexter did win the TV Obsession Award last year against all the same nominees except Game of Thrones which could be the series that takes it away from Dex. My favorite isn’t even up there (Boardwalk Empire)

Favorite Network TV Comedy

  1. Big Bang Theory
  2.  GLEE
  3. How I Met Your Mother
  4. Modern Family
  5. 2 & Half Men
Winner: The 5 Exact same nominees are back again for Round 2. Will GLEE win again or will fellow Emmy winner Modern Family win, but it could be the last round between these 5 as some tough competition will be coming up from the New Comedy category in 2013
My Pick: Big Bang Theory

Favorite TV Comedy Actor

  1. Alec Baldwin
  2. Chris Colfer
  3. Cory Monteith
  4. Jim Parsons
  5. Neil Patrick Harris
Its the funny man category and last years winner is back(Neil Patrick Harris). All 5 have the potential to win, but Jim Parsons has been the man to beat lately, but the wild card in this is GLEE Star and Canadian Cory Monteith.
My Pick: Jim Parsons, but I have a feeling Patrick Harris could repeat.

Favorite TV Comedy Actress

  1. Courtney Cox
  2. Jane Lynch
  3. Kaley Cuoco
  4. Lea Michele
  5. Tina Fey
Its the ladies turn and some familiar names are back again such as the 2011 winner in Jane Lynch and she looks to be the woman to beat, but don’t count out Fey even though 30 Rock isn’t as huge as GLEE.
My Pick: Tina Fey

Favorite Cable TV Comedy

  1. Hot In Cleveland
  2. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
  3. Nurse Jackie
  4. Royal Pains
  5. Weeds
Cable TV category’s are always the toughest to call due to the fact that not everyone has access to these shows even though some cable TV shows are the best out there. Hot In Cleveland has gotten runs on network channels and Royal Pains was the most watched of all of the nominees.
My Pick: Nurse Jackie
Favorite TV Competition Show
  1. American Idol
  2. America’s Got Talent
  3. Dancing With the Stars
  4. So You Think You Can Dance
  5. The Voice
The Voice is the new kid on the block replacing Hell’s Kitchen from last years nominees and it could be the one to steal the award away from American Idol.
My Pick: The Voice
Favorite TV Crime Drama
  1. Bones
  2. Castle
  3. Criminal Minds
  4. CSI: Las Vegas
  5. NCIS
Last years winner Lie to Me isn’t even on the air anymore, so its a wide open category. NCIS is the ratings favorite, CSI the old and wise show and Castle the new kid. Could Castle of only 3 full seasons steal the show? NCIS goes home with the award.
My Pick: Castle
Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show
  1. Fringe
  2. Supernatural
  3. True Bloods
  4. The Vampire Diaries
  5. The Walking Dead
This is a tough one as the only show listed that I watch or have seen is The Walking Dead and True Bloods are the leaders of the pack. Cable TV may win it again, but The Vampitre Diaries is right there from all the Twilighters.
My Pick: The Walking Dead
Favorite Day Time TV Show Host
  1. Al Roker, Matt Lauer, Ann Curry Savannah Guthrie & Natalie Morales                      (The Today Show)
  2. Anderson Cooper (Anderson)
  3. Ellen Degeneres ( The Ellen Degeneres Show)
  4. Kelly Ripa, Regis Philbin (Live With Regis and Kelly)
  5. Rachel Ray(Rachel Ray Show)
They have broken the TV Talk Show Host catagory into two for 2012 and Ellen loves it! The perennial winner will try to get that People’s Choice Award but Regis and Kelly are in the way as there fans would love to see Regis go out on top.
My Pick: Ellen Degeneres Show
Favorite Late Night TV Host
  1. Conan O’Brien
  2. David Letterman
  3. Jay Leno
  4. Jimmy Fallon
  5. Jimmy Kimmel
The winner of the TV Host cat. last year is back in the new Late Night Cat. A lot of fans are still mad over what happened with NBC and the Tonight Show but his new show is on Cable and not network TV. Look for the younger generation to speak up and announce the King of Night(at least for now)
Favorite TV Guest Star
  1. Gwyneth Paltrow (GLEE)
  2. Jim Carrey ( The Office)
  3. Katy Perry (How I Met Your Mother)
  4. Kristin Chenoweth (GLEE)
  5. Michael J. Fox (The Good Wife)
All five of the guest appearances were the best of the year. Michael J. Fox was the only one to dip into a drama series with his appearance on the The Good Wife but the two GLEE appearances stole there respective nights.
My Pick: Kristin Chenoweth (GLEE) although Fox is the wild card
Favorite TV Celebrity Star
  1. Gene Simmons
  2. Giulianna Rancic
  3. Kathy Griffin
  4. Kim Kardashian
  5.  Tia and Tamara Mowry
If these nominations had been announced 2-3 weeks ago I would have been calling for a Gene Simmons win, but after all the Kardashian drama which included a trending Twitter topic of #thingslongerthenkimsmarriage I have a feeling the Kardashian is taking home the trophy.
Favorite New TV Drama
  1. A Gifted Man
  2. Grimm
  3. Hart of Dixie
  4. Once Upon a Time
  5. Pan Am
  6. Person of Interest
  7. Prime Suspect
  8. Revenge
  9. Ringer
  10. The Secret Circle
  11. Terra Nova
  12. Unforgettable
Two of the biggest category’s are the new TV series cat. Once Upon a Time and Terra Nova are surprises as there series have just started. Grimm was one of the critically disliked show on this list. Pan Am is the most similar to a show you would find on Cable TV. This Cat. will truly tell us who the fav show is. Its too early in the TV game to for shows to be picked up/cancelled unless truly devastating. Next Year will tell us who survives
My Pick: Pan Am
Favorite New TV Comedy
  1. 2 Broke Girls
  2. Allen Gregory
  3. Last Man Standing
  4. Man Up
  5. New Girl
  6. Suburgatory
  7. Up All Night
  8. Whitney
Last Man Standing is the newest kid on the block only premiering 2 weeks ago, but the fact Tim Allen stars in the show doesn’t hurt. 2 Broke Girls and New Girl are the critic’s favorites, but Up All Night has been getting the viewers and has the comedy stars.
My Pick: 2 Broke Girls

2012 People’s Choice Awards: The Nominees Are

You know were getting closer to 2012 when the nominees are announced for the Peoples Choice Awards are here. So here are the nominees and who I think should win. First we will start with the films

Favorite Movie:

  1. Bridesmaids
  2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
  3. The Help
  4. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
  5. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Who’s the Winner: All five films have there certain fan base, eclipsed at least the billion dollar mark in the box office and all could potentially win. I have a feeling Potter mania will steal this one along with other awards throughout the night. Many belive DH Part 2 is the best Potter film yet and all those Potter fans are all grown up and ready to vote their hearts out.
Wild Card: Bridesmaids could be the wild card but if you are really living on the wild side go with The Help.
Favorite Movie Actor:
  1. Daniel Radcliffe
  2. Hugh Jackman
  3. Johnny Depp
  4. Robert Pattinson
  5. Ryan Reynolds
Who’s the Winner: Quite the list, but since this is the people’s choice it could easily turn into a battle between the Twilighters and Pottermaniacs as the 2 leading men of the 2 of the biggest film franchise’s go head to head, even though Pattinson is nominated because of Water For Elephants.
Wild card: Johnny Depp, Captain Jack has always been a favorite.
Favorite Movie Actress:
  1. Anne Hathaway
  2. Emma Stone
  3. Jennifer Aniston
  4. Julia Roberts
  5. Reese Witherspoon
Who the Winner: Yet another amazing list…Emma Stone is the unknown among these other actress but Jennifer Aniston shined in Horrible Bosses and will walk away with the statue.
Wild Card: Emma Stone
Favorite Movie Icon
  1. George Clooney
  2. Harrison Ford
  3. Morgan Freeman
  4. Robert De Niro
  5. Tom Hanks
Who’s the Winner: So in the category we have among others Danny Ocean, Indiana Jones, Eddie Dupris, Jake LeMotta and Forrest Gump. Many could argue that Clint Eastwood should be on this list.
Winner: Harrison Ford, although I could see Clooney getting it on popularity
Wild Card: Morgan Freeman
Favorite Action Movie
  1. Fast Five
  2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
  3. Thor
  4. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
  5. X-Men: First Class
Who’s the Winner: If Potter fans come out and vote, Harry and the gang will Apperate with the awards come Jan. 11th. Thor is the only non-sequel/franchise film on this list but it doesnt help here against the big draws of Potter or Transfomers.
Wild Card: Thor
Favorite Action Star
  1. Hugh Jackman
  2. Ryan Reynolds
  3. Shia Lebeouf
  4. Taylor Lautner
  5. Vin Diesel
Who’s the Winner: Once again we have a Twilight heart throb in a category but for a different film, this doesn’t bode well for the fellow nominees as Twilighters are very loyal. Hugh Jackman is also at the top of the list.
Wild Card: Ryan Reynolds
Favorite Drama Movie
  1. The Adjustment Bureau
  2. The Help
  3. Limitless
  4. Moneyball
  5. Water for Elephants
Who’s the Winner: Really could only be a 3 way race between Adjustment Bureau, Limitless and Moneyball. This ones a guess but Brad Pitt and america’s pastime could win it.
Wild Card: The Help
Favorite Comedy Movie
  1. Bad Teacher
  2. Bridesmaids
  3. Crazy Stupid Love
  4. Friends with Benefits
  5. Hangover Part 2
Who’s the Winner: Bad Teacher – It relates to everyone and so everyone saw it, same with Bridesmaids and this award it basically a two film race or it should be. Hangover is just done as in not funny and the other two can’t compete.
Who Should Win: Bridesmaids
Wild Card: Hangover
Favorite Comedic Movie Actor
  1. Adam Sandler
  2. Ashton Kutcher
  3. Bradley Cooper
  4. Ryan Reynolds
  5. Steve Carrell
Who’s the Winner: Adam Sandler. Carrell could also walk away with the statue. Cooper has only had the Hangover, Kutcher is funnier on TV shows and Reynolds is more the romantic comedy type.
Favorite Comedic Movie Actress
  1. Cameron Diaz
  2. Emma Stone
  3. Jennifer Aniston
  4. Mila Kunis
  5. Natalie Portman
Who’s the Winner: Cameron Diaz – Everyone has had one of those “Bad Teachers” in their lifetime and this was some of Cameron Diaz’s best work in comedy.
Wild Card: Mila Kunis aka the newbie
Favorite Movie Star Under 25
  1. Chloe Moretz
  2. Daniel Radcliffe
  3. Emma Watson
  4. Rupert Grint
  5. Tom Felton
Who’s the Winner: Why don’t we just say that someone from Harry Potter will win as the film’s stars have a 90% chance of winning. The “3 Musketeers of the Magical World” will lead the way.
Wild Card: Chloe Moretz…Really how is she going to beat the Potter stars
Favorite Ensemble Movie Cast
  1. Bridesmaids
  2. The Hangover Part 2
  3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
  4. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
  5. X-Men: First Class
Winner: Harry Potter or Bridesmaids, although Captain Jack will make a run but will fall short

  1. Anne Hathaway(Jewel – Rio)
  2. Jack Black(Po – Kung Fu Panda)
  3. Johnny Depp(Rango – Rango)

  2. Chris Hemsworth(Thor)
  3. James McAvoy(Professor X)
  4. Jennifer Lawrence(Mystique)
  5. Ryan Reynolds(Green Lantern)
Favorite Book Adaptation
  1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
  2. The Help
  3. I Am Number Four
  4. Soul Surfer
  5. Water for Elephants
Winner: Plain and Simple…Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Film 8 puts the francise on top.
Wild Card: All the other nominees shall we say, but Soul Surfer is a potential scene stealer.
