2011 was a huge year for the Scottsdale gal with 3 big roles and we are just seeing what’s to come from her

Really no surprise here, the only person that could top Ellen would be Oprah who is no longer on air.

Adam Sandler is the true comedy man and has always been a fan favorite. His films may have not been critics favs. but they have always been favorites with the people and really who is choosing these awards tonight.

The “so-called” Harry Potter award as 4 out of the 5 nominees came from the billion dollar franchise goes to the only nominee not from the Potter franchise in Chloe Moretz who came onto the film scene thanks to Golden Globe and Oscar fav Hugo. It really came down to the fact that Potter fans may have never been able to truly pick between there favorite stars.

2012 People’s Choice Awards: The Nominees Are

You know were getting closer to 2012 when the nominees are announced for the Peoples Choice Awards are here. So here are the nominees and who I think should win. First we will start with the films

Favorite Movie:

  1. Bridesmaids
  2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
  3. The Help
  4. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
  5. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Who’s the Winner: All five films have there certain fan base, eclipsed at least the billion dollar mark in the box office and all could potentially win. I have a feeling Potter mania will steal this one along with other awards throughout the night. Many belive DH Part 2 is the best Potter film yet and all those Potter fans are all grown up and ready to vote their hearts out.
Wild Card: Bridesmaids could be the wild card but if you are really living on the wild side go with The Help.
Favorite Movie Actor:
  1. Daniel Radcliffe
  2. Hugh Jackman
  3. Johnny Depp
  4. Robert Pattinson
  5. Ryan Reynolds
Who’s the Winner: Quite the list, but since this is the people’s choice it could easily turn into a battle between the Twilighters and Pottermaniacs as the 2 leading men of the 2 of the biggest film franchise’s go head to head, even though Pattinson is nominated because of Water For Elephants.
Wild card: Johnny Depp, Captain Jack has always been a favorite.
Favorite Movie Actress:
  1. Anne Hathaway
  2. Emma Stone
  3. Jennifer Aniston
  4. Julia Roberts
  5. Reese Witherspoon
Who the Winner: Yet another amazing list…Emma Stone is the unknown among these other actress but Jennifer Aniston shined in Horrible Bosses and will walk away with the statue.
Wild Card: Emma Stone
Favorite Movie Icon
  1. George Clooney
  2. Harrison Ford
  3. Morgan Freeman
  4. Robert De Niro
  5. Tom Hanks
Who’s the Winner: So in the category we have among others Danny Ocean, Indiana Jones, Eddie Dupris, Jake LeMotta and Forrest Gump. Many could argue that Clint Eastwood should be on this list.
Winner: Harrison Ford, although I could see Clooney getting it on popularity
Wild Card: Morgan Freeman
Favorite Action Movie
  1. Fast Five
  2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
  3. Thor
  4. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
  5. X-Men: First Class
Who’s the Winner: If Potter fans come out and vote, Harry and the gang will Apperate with the awards come Jan. 11th. Thor is the only non-sequel/franchise film on this list but it doesnt help here against the big draws of Potter or Transfomers.
Wild Card: Thor
Favorite Action Star
  1. Hugh Jackman
  2. Ryan Reynolds
  3. Shia Lebeouf
  4. Taylor Lautner
  5. Vin Diesel
Who’s the Winner: Once again we have a Twilight heart throb in a category but for a different film, this doesn’t bode well for the fellow nominees as Twilighters are very loyal. Hugh Jackman is also at the top of the list.
Wild Card: Ryan Reynolds
Favorite Drama Movie
  1. The Adjustment Bureau
  2. The Help
  3. Limitless
  4. Moneyball
  5. Water for Elephants
Who’s the Winner: Really could only be a 3 way race between Adjustment Bureau, Limitless and Moneyball. This ones a guess but Brad Pitt and america’s pastime could win it.
Wild Card: The Help
Favorite Comedy Movie
  1. Bad Teacher
  2. Bridesmaids
  3. Crazy Stupid Love
  4. Friends with Benefits
  5. Hangover Part 2
Who’s the Winner: Bad Teacher – It relates to everyone and so everyone saw it, same with Bridesmaids and this award it basically a two film race or it should be. Hangover is just done as in not funny and the other two can’t compete.
Who Should Win: Bridesmaids
Wild Card: Hangover
Favorite Comedic Movie Actor
  1. Adam Sandler
  2. Ashton Kutcher
  3. Bradley Cooper
  4. Ryan Reynolds
  5. Steve Carrell
Who’s the Winner: Adam Sandler. Carrell could also walk away with the statue. Cooper has only had the Hangover, Kutcher is funnier on TV shows and Reynolds is more the romantic comedy type.
Favorite Comedic Movie Actress
  1. Cameron Diaz
  2. Emma Stone
  3. Jennifer Aniston
  4. Mila Kunis
  5. Natalie Portman
Who’s the Winner: Cameron Diaz – Everyone has had one of those “Bad Teachers” in their lifetime and this was some of Cameron Diaz’s best work in comedy.

Favorite Movie Star Under 25
  1. Chloe Moretz
  2. Daniel Radcliffe
  3. Emma Watson
  4. Rupert Grint
  5. Tom Felton
Who’s the Winner: Why don’t we just say that someone from Harry Potter will win as the film’s stars have a 90% chance of winning. The “3 Musketeers of the Magical World” will lead the way.
Wild Card: Chloe Moretz…Really how is she going to beat the Potter stars

  1. Bridesmaids
  2. The Hangover Part 2

  1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
  2. The Help
  3. I Am Number Four
  4. Soul Surfer
  5. Water for Elephants
Winner: Plain and Simple…Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Film 8 puts the francise on top.
Wild Card: All the other nominees shall we say, but Soul Surfer is a potential scene stealer.

Choices for Top 10 Harry Potter Moments

So with the end of Harry Potter this past weekend. I decided that I would sit down and create a list of my Top 10 favorite moments from all 8 films. I slowly began to realize that this could take days trying to create a top 10 I was happy with, but I think I’ve figured one out.

Now I realize you may have a different opinion but feel free to suggest your favorites or your own Top 10.

So here we go (Forewarning – This list includes moments from the last film so if you would like to remain spoiler free skip #3 & 1)

10: Romance is in the Air(Half Blood Prince) and Ginny) & Hermione)

The romance’s begin! Love begins to blossom in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince when:

1) Harry and Ginny share a kiss in the Room of Requirement as Ginny hides Harry’s Potions book where no one can find it. This kiss is only the beginning as everything grows from there as some of the best Harry/Ginny moments come from the final 2 films. Ginny also shows us her true feelings when she goes chasing after Harry when the Burrow is attacked. Best Moment – When Ron walks up to Harry after wards and asks if him and Ginny hid the book – Harry’s face is priceless as to what he was thinking about.

2) Ron admits his feelings for Hermione in his hospital bed chasing Lavender and her “Won Won” nickname out of the room. We finally know Ron’s true feelings about Hermione even though he doesn’t remember anything when he fully awakes and can’t figure out why Lavender is no longer speaking to him. Best moment – When Hermione looks at Harry and says shut up after Ron says her name.

9: Harry, Ron & Hermione first meet on The Hogwarts Express(The Philosophers Stone/Sorcerers Stone)

This is where the “3 Musketeers” of the wizarding world first meet and we see the instant chemistry between the 3 actors. The scene is short but the basics of the characters are shown and of course we can’t forget Ron’s pathetic attempt at magic on Scabbers.

8: The Rivalry between Harry and Malfoy(Chamber of Secrets)

We first meet Draco as the 1st years are about to be sorted but the true rivalry didn’t begin until their second year and the Duelling Club. This scene sets the stage for the rivalry between the two over the next 5 years as they butt heads at every twist and turn. From Draco spreading rumours about Potter to Rita Skeeter to Harry believing Draco was the Heir of Slytherin, both never wanted to see the best of each other as they were always out to see the worst. In the end Harry much to Ron’s chagrin is the one to save Draco’s life.

7: The End of the High Inquisitor(Order of the Phoenix)

From the very 1st moment that we meet Dolores Umbridge and her trademark pink top and skirt in the Order of the Phoenix we knew we were in for some trouble. From her cruel forms of punishment to her being ok with the use of Cruio curse, Dolores Umbridge got under every single Potter fans skin. So seeing her being given exactly what she deserved by the Weasley twins in a show of fireworks is one of the best scenes as a woman who commands order is thrown into a world of chaos and sees her beloved decrees fall before her as she’s being chased by a dragon. It’s all topped off when Grawp carries her off into the deep bowls of the the Forbidden Forest.

6: Expecto Patronum(Prisoner of Azkaban)

We first see what Harry is truly capable of as he travels in time to produce a Patronus that protects himself and his god father Sirius. At 1st Harry believes his father is returned to help him, but as he later learns through the time traveler that he watches himself summon the Patronus that saves Sirius and his life in the Forbidden Forest.

5: Voldemort’s Rebirth in the Graveyard(Goblet of Fire)

This scene is one of those spine tingling moments in the Potter series. Not only is it Harry’s 1st contact with the true Voldemort(played superbly by Ralph Finnes) but the audience’s as well. Once Voldemort goes through the ordeal to gain his own body which includes stealing some of Harry’s blood, we realize that from this moment everything has changed for Harry and the wizarding world. Not a scene we shall forget!

4: The Prophecy(Half Blood Prince)

After dreaming about it for the entire school year, Harry learns of his fate deep and far into the Department of Mysteries. Once within the Hall of Prophecies Harry learns “The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches… For neither can live while the other survives.” Harry soon realizes eventually it will come down to him and Voldemort and confirms Harry Potter as “The Chosen One”.

3: Snapes Memories(Deathly Hallows: Part 2)

Severus Snape is redeemed in the eyes of Harry and the viewer but of course it happens after his death. From a single tear all the hate we had for Snape for killing Dumbeldore is gone as we learn of his true feelings for Lily Potter and these feeling set the course for his switch over to the good side. We learn that he feels at fault for the death of Lily and therefore vows to protect her son even though her son looks so much like the man he despised.

Severus Snape ultimately in this one scene becomes the most important character in the film(other then Harry) as information reveled in his memories not only redeem his character but the info given eventually helps Harry defeat Voldemort

2: Harry Potter learns he is a wizard(Philosophers Stone/Sorcerer’s Stone)

“Your a wizard, Harry” 3 little words that changed the course of Harry’s life forever. It was the start of something magical as “Just Harry” slowly learned everything about the wizarding world. Plus Hagrid giving Dudley that pigs tail was a priceless moment.

1: Lord Voldemort is Dead!(Deathly Hallows: Part 2)

FINALLY LORD VOLDEMORT IS DEAD! In one last heroic moment Harry sacrifices himself as a way to kill 1 of the remaining 3 Horcurx, then in one of the best battles of the series Voldemorts hunger for power and the Elder Wand gets the best of him as his curse rebounds therefore killing him and with a little help from Neville who kills Nagini its the end of Voldemort as we know it. For many Potter fans seeing Voldemort blow up into pieces was the perfect as well bittersweet ending.

The Boy who Lived is breaking film records

Harry Potter aka The Boy who Lived fanatics are at it again.

After stealing the crown of highest grossing midnight screenings film away from Twilight:Eclipse by a whooping $13.5 million to set the record at $43.5 million dollars, Harry and his friends weren’t done breaking records just yet.

The final film in the hugely successful Potter franchise earned a cool $169 million(4,375 theaters, 3,000 of which were 3D)over the weekend dethroning another Warner Brother’s film The Dark Knight’s $158.4M its opening weekend. Not only does it become the holder of the highest earning opening weekend record but Part 2 of the Deathly Hallows and J.K. Rowling’s final book completely outdistanced Deathly Hallows Part 1 which only earned a paltry $125 Million its opening weekend.

After casting a spell on audiences across the world for the midnight screenings, Harry did it again on Friday as the film earned another box office record title by earning approx. 92.1 million on Friday once again stealing the crown from a Twilight film albeit this time New Moon. Warner Brother’s estimates that Deathly Hallows Part 2 earned approx $43 million on Saturday and appox. $33.6 on Sunday which still puts Deathly Hallows in the Top 10 earners for a Sat./Sun.

The last record the film set in North America was largest IMAX opening by a film with $15.5 million dollars stealing the crown away from 2010’s Alice in Wonderland. The one record Deathly Hallows didn’t break was largest 3D opening which is still held by Alice in Wonderland at $81.3 million(DH only earned $73 million).

After setting new records in North America, Harry Potter wasn’t done yet as new records were set across Europe and numerous foreign markets. In native Britain the film earned $37 million which represented the biggest 3 day opening weekend there. As well as in Australia with $26.7 million, even though no records were broken else where it still brought it the bucks such as in Germany($25.7), France($23.9), Mexico($15.3), Italy($15.1) and Spain with $8.3 million. Take all this into account with other markets and Deathly Hallows sailed to the Foreign Box Office Record with a total of just over $307 million which completely oblterates the record of $260.4 million held by Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Stranger Tides

After adding together the North American and Foreign Box Office earnings, Part 2 of Deathly Hallows earned another title by sailing to the worldwide opening weekend record with a astronomical $476 million(in 1 weekend!) surpassing the record of $394 held by it’s franchise brother Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.  With almost half a billion in earnings Potter will certainly pass the $1 billion mark in the next couple of days which would set another record of becoming the fastest film to $1 billion dollars in earnings passing the latest Transformers which just set the record 2 weeks ago. DH is already set to become the highest earning Potter film of the franchise and most certainly will hit the $1 billion mark which would make it the 3rd film this year to do.

Now the entire Harry Potter film francise to this date has now earned $2.177 billion dollars and is setting its sights on passing Star Wars as the top grossing film franchise which Star Wars currently holds with earnings of $2.218 billion.

So for now Harry Potter fanatics have one thing to say: Mischief Managed!

The magic of Harry Potter is never over.

The Potter fanatics are asking: Where did the time go?

I, myself are like a lot of the 1st generation Potter fanatics, a piece of our childhood lies within our Potter books.

Over the course of the last 14(books) and 10(films) years we have been treated to a magical world that taught us so much more then just the joy of reading. Many will say they learnt a lot of life’s lessons from the pages in a “kids” book.

To many of us “Muggles”(such as myself) from the Philosophers Stone to the Deathly Hallows these books and characters were there alongside us from elementary school all the way to now college/university. As kids growing up Harry, Ron & Hermione were like our friends, always there for us and never too far away to teach us a lesson or two. Growing up the the Potter books shaped our childhood, many of us now say that we would not be who we are today without some of the lessons learned from this series of books.

Many adults first wrote the series off as a “kids book” and nothing else but to a whole generation and to many after it these books and films are just so much more then that. Some of life’s most important lessons are tackled in these books. Alongside Harry, Ron and Hermione we learn the meanings of friendship, love, loyalty, self-sacrifice and human empathy. We explored issues such as gender, race, social class and prejudice that taught many lessons we carry with us today and taught to live our lives to the fullest and to never give up on our dreams.

To this day Harry Potter stands alone as a series of books that changed a generation of readers into people who not just read because they have to but because they want to.

For myself and for my friends, Harry Potter shall never be over: It will never be. Harry Potter is a story that will live on for generations. Harry, Ron and Hermione will live in the hearts of children, teenagers and adults all over the world forever. J.K. Rowling has cast a spell over us these last 14 years and it shall never be forgotten or broken.

“Hogwarts will always be there to welcome us home”
